WhatsApp Green Tick (Official Business Account – OBA) Application Requirements
The green tick — Meta's Official Business Account (OBA) badge — has six requirements. Here's each one explained, why it matters, and exactly how to meet it before you apply, plus the step-by-step application in WhatsApp Manager.

The green tick next to a business name on WhatsApp is Meta's Official Business Account (OBA) badge — it tells customers Meta has confirmed this is the authentic, notable brand it claims to be.
Before you apply, your account must meet six requirements. Meet all of them first: if any are missing, the Submit Request button in WhatsApp Manager is greyed out and you can't even apply.

The 6 requirements — and how to meet each
✅ 1. You must be using an approved Business Account
Your number has to be a live WhatsApp Business API (WABA) account that Meta has approved — not a personal or QR-linked number. How to meet it: connect and get your WABA approved first → How to Create / Verify / Connect Your WhatsApp Business API to ChatDaddy.
✅ 2. You must enable 2-Step Verification
Meta requires the 6-digit two-step verification PIN to be switched on for the number — it proves you control the account. How to meet it: in Meta Business Manager → WhatsApp Accounts → your account → WhatsApp Manager → Phone numbers → settings ⚙ → Two-step verification, turn it on and set a PIN you'll remember. (The reverse — turning it off for migration — is covered in How to Turn Off WhatsApp Two-Step Verification; for OBA you want it on.)
✅ 3. Facebook Business Manager should be verified by Facebook
Your Meta Business Manager (MBM) / Business Portfolio must have completed Business Verification — Meta checks your legal business documents. How to meet it: complete verification in Meta's Security Centre → How to Verify Your Business on Meta (Required for Official WhatsApp Business Account). No Business Manager yet? Start with How to Get a Meta Business Manager Account.
✅ 4. Must be a business (individuals are not allowed)
The green tick is only granted to registered businesses / organisations, not to personal accounts or individuals. How to meet it: register your business and use its legal details consistently across your Meta Business Manager, WABA and website — mismatched details are a common rejection reason.
✅ 5. Recommended: Tier 2 or above messaging level
While not strictly mandatory, Meta strongly favours numbers at Tier 2 (1,000+ daily unique customers) or above — it shows real, healthy usage. How to meet it: grow your messaging tier by sending quality, opted-in messages → How to Grow Your WhatsApp Messaging Limit with the AI Tier Assistant, and keep your rating green → Keep an Eye on Your WhatsApp Account Quality.
✅ 6. Must be a notable and reputed brand
This is the hardest bar: Meta wants evidence your brand is well-known and talked about in independent media. How to meet it: when you apply you can (optionally but strongly recommended) submit up to 5 links to news articles / press coverage about your brand from reputable outlets — not press releases or your own website. Company blogs, paid placements and social posts don't count.
How to apply for the green tick (OBA)
Apply directly in Meta's WhatsApp Manager.
Step 1: In Meta Business Suite, select your business account.
Step 2: Click Settings.
Step 3: Select the WhatsApp account on the left panel — pick the correct number you want verified — and click WhatsApp Manager.
Step 4: Click the ⚙️ Settings icon on the WhatsApp account you want to verify.
Step 5: Under Profile, click Submit Request.
Reason for Request template: "To get credibility with customers and to help customers build trust using our official chat number."
⚠️ If your business doesn't meet the prerequisites above, Submit Request is greyed out — you can't apply until all six are met.
Step 6: In the pop-up, add the required information and the optional supporting links (your 5 media links from requirement #6).
Step 7: Submit. Meta reviews the request and emails you the outcome.
⚠️ If your request is rejected, you can submit a new one after 30 days. Use the wait to strengthen requirements #5 and #6.
